To our faithful members,
This has been a trying year so far. Our loyal backer had troubling time with the stock market crash to the point of no longer being able to support our daily functions. I have taken this to heart and at no time has it crossed my mind to discontinue our efforts. Jace has also decided to continue on as needed basis. It has also been trying for me physically starting with tearing the ligaments in my right hand thumb resulting in the need to wear a cast for several weeks. I was feeling pretty good about things financially due to the fact that I was receiving many requests to train the IOOV (In Our Own Voice) Program nationally. While I was prepping for a training in San Antonio, which I was very excited about since my daughter was going to get to visit me while I was there, (she lives in Houston and I have not seen her since July) I started having some bleeding issues that needed to be addressed for clearance to fly for the training. As you can guess I was disappointed that I could not attend that training due to a case of Diverticulitis , but received a follow up phone call that I needed to return to the hospital asap. My CAT Scans had been reviewed the next day and they were concerned with an indication of an “internal tissue mass” that needed to be investigated right away. The “C” word came into the conversation many times so I had a hard time digesting the overall implications immediately. I have been cleared to do some speaking and enjoyed going to Louisville, Ky and the opportunity to be part of a study involving the impact of personal story telling at two High Schools to 100+ female adolescents last week. I am scheduled to have a scope in the morning and hope to have more answers afterwards. I have also been tentatively cleared at this point to attend a training in Orlando the weekend of the 23rd and the NAMI National Leadership training in Arlington, VA starting 02/05/09. We have not been very active on the site as of late and I will try as my condition improves to keep things updated on a regular basis. There are a few details I have to work out now that we have lost our backing to get things back on track for the expansion we were hoping for in the time frames we had in mind. What I want and need you to know is that this would not be possible without you… I need to know that you will stand behind this cause. I will need more help from you in the upcoming month to spread the word out the need for this campaign to continue. I refuse to give up on this mission and ask you to do the same. I may not have the ability to push as hard I want to for a while, but knowing I have your support will keep me motivated to get back into the mix as soon as possible. I believe in you all and believe in what we have all accomplished thus far. Know you are all in my prayers and that I will be working to get back on track.
