"I am one voice. I care about people who live with mental illness. I care about their friends and family. I will shout my concern to the rafters, yet many will not hear me. So, I am joining others who themselves are one voice. Together our voices shout in unison that the hushed issue of mental health needs to be discussed. We declare that we care about the 1,500 despairing Americans who will attempt suicide today. We declare that we care about those that cannot afford health care and the medication they deserve. We declare that we care about the sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, husbands, wives and friends who are becoming too desperate to continue the struggle and don’t know where to turn. Together we acknowledge the immediate need for access to health care and the urgent necessity of increased mental health research. Every minute wasted means another attempt to end another life. We must stop the ticking."
